Determining Temporary Odour Concentration under Field Conditions – Comparison of Methods
نویسندگان
چکیده
The authors compared two methods of determining odour concentration under field conditions. Twelve series of odour measurements were carried out at a mink farm. Odour concentration was determined using a portable dynamic olfactometer (nasal ranger, st. croix sensory, inc.) and by approximation using the psychophysical Weber-fechner equation of S-logZ on odour intensity results. Odour concentrations were about 60 ou/m3 for both methods. Values of the ratio cod,Wf/codnR were in the range of (0.2-5), which satisfies the requirements of en 13725.

Odour impact determination of a MSW treatment plant: dispersion modelling and electronic nose
One of the most important research topics at the Olfactometric Laboratory of the Politecnico di Milano is the study and the development of a system for the continuous monitoring of environmental odours. The experimental methods adopted are laboratory tests, with samples of known quality and odour concentration, and field tests, represented by experimental monitorings of limited duration. This s...

Instantaneous downwind malodours from two swine farrowing facilities were assessed in the field by 15 trained human sniffers. A total of 34 1-hour field monitoring sessions were carried out on the two farms between June and October in 2003 and 2004. Odour emissions from the farm were measured and weather conditions were monitored simultaneously. Four air dispersion models, ISCST3, AUSPLUME, IN-...

متن کاملDetermination of odour concentration by TD-GC×GC–TOF-MS and field olfactometry techniques
ABSTRACT Field olfactometry is one of the sensory techniques used to determine odour concentration, in atmospheric air, directly in emission sources. A two-dimensional gas chromatography with time of flight mass spectrometer (GC×GC-TOF-MS) allows performing the chemical characterization of various groups of chemical compounds, even in complex mixtures. Application of these techniques enabled de...
متن کاملComparison of two peak-to-mean approaches for use in odour dispersion models.
In this paper, two approaches to estimate odour concentrations in dispersion models are compared. The approaches differ in the estimation of the momentary (peak) odour concentration for the time interval of a single human breath (approximately 5 s). The Austrian Odour Dispersion Model (AODM) is a Gaussian model with peak-to-mean factors depending on wind speed and atmospheric stability. The Ger...
